It’s always fun to venture back through your music collection and stumble upon an album that you didn’t listen to much when you first got it, but then once you hear it again, you get it and really enjoy it. This happens once in a while, most notably in my life with Further Seems Forever’s The Moon Is Down and anything by The Danielson Famile. It happened to me this week with Okkervil River. I had come across their Stage Names album in my collection and decided to give it a spin. I’m thankful I did. The track Plus Ones jumped out at me and I knew that I had to include it this week. Today’s podcast was put together with a little bit of a heavy heart. I spent sometime yesterday watching the Germans be bounced by the Spanish in the World Cup. I was pretty confused as to why the Germans decided just to sit back, concede most of the possession and only take a couple counter attacks. It seemed like a pretty odd decision from a team that dominated early in the tournament by playing a pretty free flowing attacking system. Oh man, oh my…
I’ve been away for a while. It’s good to be back, but this last month was a portent (heck yes) of things to come. It’s been a crazy time in my life with weekly trips to Toronto, moving, graduations, work, and a little something called the WORLD CUP! I’ve been getting a lot of work done, but also watching all the matches. And I couldn’t be happier.

Vuvuzelas, those horns a lot of fans are blowing, are causing quite a stir. They sound like a drone of angry bees and have been mocked, ridiculed and spat upon all over. Calls to ban them have been silenced and to that I say, fantastic. I don’t like the sound. It’s annoying and takes away from other crowd sounds I appreciate, like chanting, singing etc. However, they have been a tradition in South African Football for years and this isn’t a surprise to the FIFA team. Plus, if you listen long enough, you just get used to them! Tradition wins out and for that, hurrah!

I guess I need to apologize for all the talking in this week’s episode. Once the topic of the World Cup came up, I just kind of rambled. Usually I’ve got the playlist for the podcast sorted out by Monday night at the latest. However, this week was much tougher. I tried a number of combinations but didn’t get it just right until tonight. Songs had to be dropped because they wouldn’t fit and then new songs had to be found to take their place.
