About two years ago I realized that I had a problem. My iPod could hold 160 GB of stuff while the harddrive of my laptop only held about 120 GB. As I came close to filling my hard drive, I came up with the idea of porting the entire thing over to an external drive. This was great, I could host all my music in one location and not have computer issues because the hard drive didn’t have enough space for a decently sized swap file. I never really thought about backing this up because this hard drive never moved and I still had a copy of everything on my iPod anyways. As my collection continued to grow, I didn’t put much thought when I had to start editing what went onto the iPod because I had used up all the space. In order to make space for all the new music that I was coming across, I started to remove my Christmas music because I don’t need to carry it around all year long. That might not sound like much but I had about 15 GB of Christmas music. Then Tuesday afternoon happened. I was moving some papers around when I accidentally connected with the hard drive, sending it crashing to the floor while it was spinning. I had hoped for the best but soon my worst fears were realized. I plugged it back in and heard this really awkward whirring and what sounded like a little scratching. After a few seconds, the noise just stopped altogether and my worst fears were realized. The drive was dead and aside from sending it off to a super-expense data recovery place, my music would be lost. Thankfully, I still have the iPod which has about 85% of the collection on it, so I can get most of it back without having to re-rip every CD and dig up digital versions of all the records. But since I’m down a drive and I have more music than I have harddrive space for, I’m stuck until I can get another external drive. Thankfully, I had just done an import of this week’s new music and still had it all sitting in the recycle bin. This was enough to build an excellent podcast episode from, (Half of it was going to be played anyways) my week was saved. Guess this time I need to pick up two drives and keep them synchronized. Anyways, here’s what you’re hearing this week.
