For the amount of music that I listen to, it’s a little disappointing that 99% of it come from Canada, the U.S.A. or the U.K. I’m even a little disappointed that when I was in Germany for a couple weeks, the only music that I seemed to find in the record stores was old American or English music. It’s not that it isn’t available to me. eMusic and iTunes have made getting digital copies of this stuff really easy, I just don’t know what I’m looking for. I’m also a little hesitant to make blind purchases, lest I come up with some Ukrainian folk music, Scandanavian death metal (although there are times to listen to Scandanavian death metal. Sometimes you just need to listen to some Opeth or In Flames) or German polkas. Anyways, got a recommendation to check out the band Razika from Norway this week and I’m glad that I did. I know the genre ska scares most of you who remembers the two-tone phase from the mid-90s (especially if you were in a youth group, although Five Iron Frenzy is still awesome), but this isn’t third-wave ska. It’s light, got a good rhythm and I have no idea what they’re saying. Here’s what else you’re hearing:
Deerhoof – Goin’ Up The Country from “99% Upset Feeling” (Download it here.)
Pearl Jam – OlĂ© (Download it here.)
Chuck Ragan – Wish On The Moon from “Covering Ground”
The Horrible Crowes – Crush from “Elsie”
Razika – Eg Vetsje from “Program 91″ (Download it here.)
Girls – Vomit from “Father, Son, Holy Ghost” (Download it here.)
Wye Oak – Civilian from “Civilian” (Download it here.)
Absinthe Blind – The Break (It’s Been There All This Time) from “Rings”
Thanks for listening and I’ll see you next week.
