Last week’s post talked a lot about Nevermind by Nirvana and since this week’s show features a track from a tribute to Is This It? by The Strokes, I figure that I should probably talk a little bit about the impact it had. Actually, it didn’t have that much impact. I’m not sure why, but I never completely got the Strokes. I think maybe it had a lot to do with all the treble, but I think part of it was enduring the endless hype that existed for a long time before Is This It? was released. After hearing how amazing and awesome they were, there was no way that the record could live up to those expectations. I still enjoy the singles from the album, Hard To Explain and Last Night but I’ve never really considered it the impactful, inspirational album that so many people cite it as. Given my opinion of it, I was surprised to see Stereogum commemorate it’s 10th anniversary with a tribute album. There are some cool tracks on it, like this week’s Owen Pallett track, but like the real album, I’m left feeling a little underwhelmed, if that’s a word. Anyways, lots of other good stuff this week that isn’t Strokes-related:

They Might Be Giants – Judy Is Your Vietname

Owen Pallett – Hard To Explain from “Stereogum presents… Stroked: A Tribute To Is This It” (See stereogum.com to download it)
Lifestory:Monologue – Thornberry (Download it here.)
Les Sages – Nomads from “Share This”

Burlap To Cashmere – Other Country
St. Vincent – Surgeon from “Strange Mercy”
The Tallest Man On Earth – Weather Of A Killing Kind

Kid Koala – Moon River from “Daytrotter.com Sessions” (See daytrotter.com to download)

Thanks for listening and I’ll see you next week.
