I don’t listen to much hip-hop but when I find something I like, I listen to it a lot. Over the last couple weeks, three CD’s have come across my way. Deepspace 5, Shad and Reflection Eternal, the new project between Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek (I’m not sure why Mos Def couldn’t have appeared on a couple more tracks so they could’ve called it a Black Star album). You’ve heard me rave already about the Deepspace 5 album, so today it’s all about the new Shad. I love his stream of consciousness rhymes with lots of random pop culture references. This really puts him up there with K-Os, K’Naan and the other Canadian rappers.
Other than that, I also included a track from the Blaster The Rocket Man tribute album. It seems a little weird for there to be a tribute album to a band that only released 3 albums, whose songs took Sci-Fi creatues and related their stories to Christian themes (they loved the C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy), but apparently, it was a long time coming. They started working on it in 2002 and it didn’t get released until 2007. Somehow, I never heard anything about it until last week. It got put up on NoiseTrade.com and I was able to get it. It’s not quite as good as new music from Blaster would be, but it’s nice to see them get a little recognition.
Here’s what you’re listening to this week:
Dietrichs – Human Flytrap (Our Hero Escapes From Mars) from “Mutinous Wonderflesh Vs The Body Under The HEAD: A Tribute To Blaster The Rocket Man” (Download it here.)

Jared
