I think I’m going to scare off most of my tiny listening audience with today’s episode. Christian music doesn’t have a terribly great reputation and there was good reason for that when you look into the music made by Christians in the 80’s. Much of Christian subculture was still wrestling with the idea of Rock & Roll as “The Devil’s” music. Some music was made, but a lot of it was written, so that only Christians could understand it, or it was so critical of the secular world, that no one could really listen to it.
I was talking about this on the weekend and someone mentioned that they were listening to some of the music and wanted a few recommendations. I was a little surprised but figured that this would be a great topic for a show. So I scoured the corners of my music collection and came up with a pretty full program. Some of the music is better than others, but I think it gives you a pretty good idea of what Christian music was like in the 80’s.
