Well, I made it. 52 consecutive weeks. I didn’t think I had it in me. I’d like to thank my listeners, at least I assume I’ve got listeners because of the occasional comments…

Anyway, I thought I’d add one more retrospective for the previous ST year. Although I gave you my favourite songs of 2009, I thought I’d give you my favourite songs of that I’ve used on my podcast, with many of them not being eligible for last week’s show since they were released before 2009. So here you go and I’ll be back to a normal format next week.

1) Arkells – Deadlines from “Jackson Square”

I know Tyrone’s not a big fan of these guys but I love that track. There sure aren’t many songs about office life (although The National have a couple), and this one just rocks, so it has to be included.

2) The Gaslight Anthem – Miles Davis & The Cool from “The 59 Sound”

The title track from The 59 Sound was the one that got the airplay, but I think this is the best song off that disc. I’m really curious as to what their next album will sound like and if they can take a step forward from what was a great sophomore album.

3) Bruce Peninsula – Lift ‘em Up/Jack Can I Ride

What else is there to say? Simply amazing.

4) One Hundred Dollars – No Great Leap from “Forest of Tears”

I’ve listened to a lot of great local Toronto bands and this one of my favourites. I really need to catch them live sometime.

5) Michael Knott – Halo from “Life of David”

A hauntingly beautiful track of devotion and forgiveness, Knott at his finest.

6) Richard Swift – Lady Luck from “Ground Trouble Jaw”

Another hauntingly beautiful track. I really need to listen to more Richard Swift.

7) Starflyer 59 – First Heart Attack from “Old”

Probably not the Starflyer song that you expected to see on here but it just seemed to fit with the playlist.

8) The Lassie Foundation – I’m Stealin’ To Be Your One In A Million from “California”

One of my favourite songs of all time. Love that falsetto on top of the shoegaze.

9) Doug Burr – Thing About Trouble from “On Promenade”

A great track from a Texas singer/songwriter. On Promenade is a fantastic album with Thing About Trouble being the best track off of there. I couldn’t stop listening to this album for about 6 months after its release. So good.

10) Headlights – Get Going from “Wildlife”

They’ve put out three solid discs in a row. This one easily made my top 20 albums of 2009.

11) Joel Plaskett Emergency – Nowhere With You from “CBC Radio 3 Sessions, Vol. 3″

Just a super fun song.

12) Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet – (What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding from “Under The Covers, Vol. 2″

An odd combination of talents on the surface, they really come together well on this tribute to Elvis Costello. Although seeing Matthew Sweet’s name is going to get Sick of Myself stuck in my head.

13) The Hold Steady – Stuck Between Stations from “Boys & Girls In America”

For some reason, the line that always sticks out for me in the song is “She was a really cool kisser but she wasn’t all that strict of a Christian”

14) Starflyer 59 & David Bazan – Broken Arm from “Ghosts of the Future” 7″ series

This one is included mainly to show how awesome this track could’ve been. Sadly, on Bazan’s Curse Your Branches, he renamed it Lost My Shape, slowed it down and robbed it of the urgency in this version.

15) Joe Christmas – Coupleskate from “Upstairs Overlooking”

I can’t go rollerskating without this song going through my head the entire time.

16) Luxury – Sun Stoned from “Salutations: A Tribute To The Prayer Chain”

I really raved about this track the last time I used it and now is no different. Just get lost in the noise.

17) The Cure – Out Of This World (Paul Oakenfold remix) from “Join The Dots: B-Sides & Rarities”

I couldn’t think of a better way to end off the year. Just sit back and enjoy this last track.

Thanks for listening and I’ll see you next week where we begin year #2 of SilentTalkie Radio.
