Hopefully this podcast finds you counting down to a rather short day of work in preparation for some enjoyable family celebrations tonight and/or tomorrow. Since it’s December 24th, I’m guessing not too many people will be listening to this before Christmas. That said, I still had a bunch of Christmas music that I didn’t get a chance to play, so I’m going to keep the theme up for one more week no matter how sick of it you are.

MxPx – Christmas Party from “Christmas Party” EP

I probably should’ve used this track a couple weeks ago when people were in the middle of Christmas Party season but it was too good to just sit on and wait for next year.

Dave Merritt And The Quiet Revolution – Linus and Lucy from “A Peanuts Christmas: The Zunior Holiday Album”

I’m not sure if the bandname is a nod to The Quiet Revolution that really pushed the idea of Quebec sovereignty in the early 60′s, but it’s a fun rendition of a classic instrumental track. While there are no lyrics to this song and no real tie to Christmas, most people can place it fairly quickly and it evokes memories of watching the Peanuts Christmas special.

Snowden – Christmas Time Is Here from “Licorice” EP

Does anyone really like black licorice? C’mon really? I think you’re saying yes just to annoy me. Honestly, that stuff is disgusting. Somehow the Dutch manage to take it to a new level of evil by covering it in salt and trying to pass it off as a treat. Note: I’m not down on all licorice. Nibs are delicious and can be eaten in massive quantities until one feels sick and never wants to see them again, until a couple months later when you see them and remember how tasty they are and start the whole cycle again.

Sixpence None The Richer – You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch from “Christmas In Heaven”

I never really cared much for Sixpence but I tend to like their covers. Sure their version of There She Goes wasn’t nearly as good as the original or the version used in So I Married An Axe Murderer but it still beat most of what was played on the radio at the time.

Ohbijou – Last Christmas

Grandaddy – Alan Parsons In A Winter Wonderland from “Xfm: It’s a Cool, Cool Christmas”

It’s a Cool, Cool Christmas is an awesome Christmas-themed compilation. Over the last month, I’ve used a couple tracks from it and seeing as I’m so lazy, I was tempted just to play the album in full. That’s just how awesome it is.

Almonzo – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen from “Happy Christmas”

Can anyone tell me about Almonzo? As far as I know, their only recordings are this track and a track from an early Tooth & Nail Records comp called Pancake Batter Girl, which I’m really surprised I haven’t used on an episode yet. No matter how much I search, no one seems to have any idea who these guys are.

Poor Old Lu – What Child Is This? from “Happy Christmas 3″

Seeing as how Poor Old Lu is one of my favourite bands ever, it shouldn’t surprise you to seem them here.

Rosie Thomas – Christmas Don’t Be Late from “A Very Rosie Christmas”

You may have been singing this all week as you prepared to enjoy your extra long weekend but it seemed like a great way to my salute to Christmas music. I hope you enjoyed it and I did manage to save a bunch of stuff in case I feel like doing this again next year. It’s been an honour to bring you this much music and I’m hoping to continue until we get a nice Cease & Desist letter from the RIAA.

Merry Christmas,

Jared
