Sorry but once again, I am without a mic, so you get the silent podcast, or at least music free of breaks and narration. I think that’s alright because I’ve got some great music lined up for you this week. Last week’s Christmas music was very religious, while this week’s tends more towards the secular celebration that the holiday has become. (And given that before it was Christmas, it was a very secular celebration, how long was it just a Christmas celebration? Was it ever that?)

1. Doctor Octoroc – Super Jingle Bros. from “8-bit Jesus”

Hmm, Jingle Bells done in 8-bit style with the inspiration of the theme from Super Mario Bros. How could it be bad? Well, it’s definitely not. It’s definitely awesome. A little short but a great lead track.

2. Five Iron Frenzy – You Gotta Get Up from “Happy Christmas”

Sure ska is outdated and over as a fad, but this track tends to capture the excitement of Christmas morning that you remember as a kid. That rush of not being able to sleep and waking up well before everyone else and wondering why they aren’t up as well.

3. Fountains of Wayne – I Want An Alien For Christmas from “Plugged In For The Holidays”

4. Lemmy Killmeister, Billy Gibbons & Dave Grohl – Run Rudolph Run from “We Wish You A Metal X-Mas And A Headbanging New Year”

Hmm, the lead singer from Motörhead, the guitarist from ZZ Top and the drummer from Nirvana. Now that’s a lineup. Maybe not as good as Chuck Berry’s original but still rockin’.

5. The Vandals – Oi To The World from “Oi! To The World (Christmas With The Vandals)”

As odd as it sounds, this track was one of the first Christmas songs that I searched high and low to find and pretty much started my obsession with digging up great holiday music. The No Doubt cover isn’t bad but the original is still where it’s at.

6. Telekinesis! – Father Christmas from “Peace On Earth: A Charity Holiday Album Vol. II”

Originally a song by The Kinks, it’s a fun little song about robbing Santa.

7. The Dandy Warhols – Little Drummer Boy from “Plugged In For The Holidays”

8. Sufjan Stevens – Come On Let’s Boogie To The Elf-Dance from “Songs For Christmas”

Probably the greatest Sufjan-penned song of his Christmas collection. Just a lot of fun.

9. Silver Speakers – Everything’s Going To Be Cool This Christmas from “Tyrone & Dorothea Sing Christmas Songs”

Tyrone does a good job of re-invisioning this laid back Eels song.

10. Low – Just Like Christmas from “Christmas”

I can’t believe it took SilentTalkie Radio this long to feature a Low Christmas song. I figured it would’ve been on Put Your Heart Into It last week, or possibly this week. (I may have peeked ahead)

11. Holler, Wild Rose! – In Angel’s Realm

Thanks for listening and I hope to have a mic by next week.
