For this week’s edition of “Put Yr Heart Into It,” I decided to throw together a “modern classical” (ish) set that’s primarily violin/string based. Inspiration for this comes from last Sunday night, when I finally (finally!) saw Andrew WK’s spectacle performance at the Music Gallery here in Toronto, which was equally a performance by his guests, the Calder Quartet. They performed a number of amazing pieces, most notably a Philip Glass suite (that I loved, go figure!) and this piece, entitled “Interface,” accompanied by 1-bit four-channel tones. I’ve tracked down a recording of that, and built the rest of the set around that… I’ve also added some extra “space” between each track if you need to find your bearings while listening. Enjoy!
1. “Interface” by Tristan Perich, as performed by the Calder Quartet.
2. “I Hear… Goodnight” by Low & the Dirty Three from “In the Fishtank”
3. “Keep in Touch” by Nico Muhly from “Speaks Volumes”
4. “The Elder Lie” by A Broken Consort from “Box of Birch”
