Mixtapes have long been a part of hip-hop culture but it’s something that I’ve never really gotten into. I’ve acquired a few over the years (some Lupe Fiasco, the Boondocks one, although that one was entirely to have a copy of the theme song) but largely, I’ve left that part alone, just picking up the odd album here and there. However, when one of my favourite groups puts one together, I thought I’d check it out. Essentially, they took the music tracks from Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album and added their own rhymes on top of them. I chose one of the tracks to kick off the program, but in retrospect, it’s probably not the strongest one. Whatever, it’s done and you’re probably listening to it right now. As for the rest of the episode, there are a couple local bands, I got a request for some Anathallo and a pseudo-cover (Is it really a cover if you wrote the song in a previous band?) to end it off. The last track was a rip off a vinyl record, so there’s a fair bit of noise in the background and it’s a little quieter than everything else. I’ve been looking for a proper digital copy of the album but there don’t seem to be many Wayne Everett fans out there in the greater pirate community. Maybe he needs to do more songs about buried treasure, eye patches and bottles of rum. Actually, the bottles of rum theme would suit SilentTalkie Radio pretty well with the number of songs that we’ve played lately by Old Canes… Anyways, I digress, here’s the playlist:
