We all have those bands in our past that we’re a little embarrassed that we once listened to. For me, I was stuck in Christian Rock until my late teens. Keep in mind, this isn’t good Christian Rock either. Before it was cool to be a musician and a Christian, like Sufjan Stevens, there existed a world of musicians that were uncool and about 10 years behind the times. There was one band in the midst of this that actually had some mainstream success in a genre that was popular at the time. That was Stryper. Sure they had a cheezy gimmick (they even threw Bibles off the stage during some shows), but all of hair metal was built on that cheese. Well, they’re coming to town in a few days and Tyrone and I are heading down to checking them out. They’re playing a fairly small venue, a far cry from stadiums they used to fill, and the black and yellow spandex are long gone, but I’m still looking forward to reliving a portion of my youth.
Aside from that, I’ve got a great lineup for you. Check out The Langley Sisters, they’ve got a really cool sound. The Old Canes track is awesome as well. Actually, I think I could rave about all the rock I’m bringing you this week. Here’s the playlist:
Stryper – C’Mon Rock from “Roxx Regime demos”
Mike Dunn & The Kings Of New England – Promise Land from “Sundowner”
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – “Higher Than The Stars from “Higher Than The Stars” EP
Asobi Seksu – Transparence from “Transparence”
Old Canes – Little Bird Courage from “Feral Harmonic”
The Langley Sisters – I Saw The Devil from “The Langley Sisters”
Land Of Talk – May You Never from “Fun And Laughter”
The Watchmen – Trampoline
Goonies Never Say Die – Everyone Comes To Life from “In A Forest Without Tress”
Thanks for listening.
