Thanks for coming by today. I’ve got some great tracks lined up. Normally, I’m not one for screamo. Sure, I went through a punk phase and dabbled in hardcore but I never quite got the hang of listening to the screaming. It’s because of this that I was hesitant to check out Maylene & The Sons of Disaster. A couple people have been raving to me about them and more specifically their newest album. I didn’t know much about them, but I knew that the band was started after their lead singer got kicked out of Christian screamers Underoath. Now it might not be fair to write off a band because of something like that but with the amount of music that has already stockpiled itself in my listening queue, I didn’t feel so bad. I finally got around to picking up that disc and giving it a listening and I’ve got to say, I was shocked by what I heard. It’s not really screamo, but it’s got some of those elements mixed in with Southern rock and some folk instruments. I think they’ve got a really intriguing sound and the track that I’ve got leading off the podcast is just excellent and one of the best opening tracks I’ve used in my 35 episodes so far. If you dig, be sure to check their stuff out. Now I just need to get around to picking up their first two albums. Onto the playlist:
Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster – Step Up (I’m On It) from “III”
fun. – Benson Hedges from “Aim & Ignite”
MuteMath feat. Rebirth Brass Band – Armistice (2nd Line Version) from the Armistice VIP package
Celldweller – So Long Sentiment from “Wish Upon A Blackstar Chapter 01″
The Depreciation Guild – Butterfly Kisses from “In Her Gentle Jaws”
The Rock Band – As Perfect As Average Gets from “This Is Revenge”
The Ripperz – Born Fighting from “The Ripperz”
Tokyo Police Club – Friends of P from “Friends of P – Tribute To The Rentals”
Silver Speakers – Through The Fire & Flames from “Kennedy EP”
Thanks for listening and see you again next week.
