I didn’t get The Lassie Foundation right away. My older brother picked up the California EP. He loved it and I tried but I just couldn’t get into that shoe-gaze/near dream-pop sound. Wayne Everett’s got a great falsetto but at the time, I was more into grunge and punk rock. I liked things a little more aggresive and up tempo that what the Foundation provided. Over time, I gave them another chance and fell in love. The soft smooth vocals and the super fuzzy guitars were wonderful. Unfortunately, I never got to see them live as they never toured very much and rarely left the state of California. Still the Foundation has done enough to make it into my top 10 listened to bands on last.fm. I know I’ve used a bunch of these songs already but there really is a fairly limited amount of material they wrote, so I’ll use them again (plus they’re awesome). So sit back and enjoy the last few days of summer, before pop music takes a back seat until the weather warms again.
