I talk a lot in this episode of the podcast, so I’ll try and keep the written accompaniment brief. John Hughes passed away last week and I thought it might be a fitting tribute to put together an episode with songs and covers of songs that came from his films. He was responsible for so many iconic films: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Home Alone, Beethoven, Weird Science… I could go on and on but I’ll stop there. Hope you enjoy this salute to the man’s life work. Here’s the tracklist:
Yello – Oh Yeah from “Stella” (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)
The Isley Brothers – Twist And Shout (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – done in the film by The Beatles)
Chuck Berry – Roll Over Beethoven (Beethoven)
The Coasters – Yakety Yak (The Great Outdoors)
The National – Pretty In Pink from “Daytrotter.com Sessions” (Pretty In Pink – originally by The Psychedelic Furs)
National – Bring On The Dancing Horses from “Isn’t She Still… A Tribute To The Pretty In Pink Soundtrack” (Pretty In Pink – originally done by Echo & The Bunnymen
Trespassers William – Left Of Center from “Isn’t She Still… A Tribute To The Pretty In Pink Soundtrack” (Pretty In Pink – originally done by Suzanne Vega)
Hello, Goodbye – Weird Science from “A Dead Bands Party: A Oingo Boingo Tribute” (Weird Science – originally by Oingo Boingo)
Starflyer 59 – Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want from “Ghosts of the Future 7″ series” B-Sde from disc 3 of 10 (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty In Pink – originally by The Smiths)
The Bouncing Souls – Don’t You (Forget About Me) from “The Bad, The Worse And The Out Of Print” (The Breakfast Club – originally by Simple Minds)
Swingin’ Fireballs – Danke Schoen from “In The Mood For Swing!” (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – done in the film by Wayne Newton)
Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed the episode.
