Yep, another TFC related post/podcast this week on Silent Talkie. The road trip was long and awesome (and yes, despite better impulses, Jared and I did listen to a leaked version of David Bazan’s “Curse Your Branches” almost 3 or 4 times on the drive home… micro review: I didn’t like it right off the bat, but I’ve been listening to “God Bless” a few times now and its growing on me. And basically the whole album is a Fleet Foxes side project… that’s odd, and yet explains all the slide guitar and harmonies). Anyways, I just got back from watching a soccer team practice lazily for half an hour, and yes, that team, Real Madrid, is going to take on my home club, the TFC Friday night at BMO field, and who knows, TFC could win (unlikely. [not that it matters]). Anyways, here’s the podcast.
1. “Reply (To Everyone)” by Madrid from “Original Message”
This Toronto band finally takes a step in the right direction.
2. “Bones” by A Mountain of One from “Institute of Joy”
3. ”My Love was There” by The Junction from “Another Link in the Chain”
I thought I would hate the guts out of this, but it was pretty decent, and I want to listen to the album now.
4. “Five oh” by Boohoo
Not as bad as other people think. I’m curious to see how they pull it off live.
5. “Your Weather” by Dinosaur Jr. from “Farm”
The best Lou track from the album. Easily one of my favourite summer albums this year, beyond “Bitte Orca” and “In Deference to a Broken Back.”
6. “Downtown” by Jon-Rae Fletcher from “Oh, Maria”
7. “Worn From the Flight (With Fireworks)” by Castanets from “Texas Rose, The Thaw, and the Beats”
I wish I could find more Christian-ish music that wasn’t put out by Ashtmatic Kitty, because most of that label’s output doesn’t sit right with me (except of course, for “The Welcome Wagon” and Soo-yun obviously). I’ve passed on Castanets in the past, but I enjoy this.
8. “We Shall Eat Krill” by PDF Format from “Building Blocks Vol 1″
You kill me with your creative sheen PDF Format. It’s weirdo, but I love it, and it makes me jealous.
9. “Dig a Pony (Live)” by St. Vincent
She’s playing at the Horseshoe in Toronto this week, and is on the cover of Eye Magazine in Toronto this week. Because she really needs the promo unlike all the other unknowns/upandcomings that played the Horseshoe the rest of the week. But she takes a pretty picture. Why am I including this here? It’s actually pretty decent. (Another Soo-yaaaaan connection too).
10. “Chain” by Vic Chesnutt from “At The Cut”
