Happy Canada Day, or at least a belated Happy Canada Day as you’ll be ready this on Thursday. As I write, I can hear the sounds of people in the neighbourhood lighting fireworks and celebrating. It probably would’ve been a good time for a showcase of Canadian talent, but Tyrone did so a couple weeks ago with his Polaris Prize post, so if you’re looking for that, check it out here. Now onto this week’s episode. I’ve included a Switchfoot song. This may surprise a good many people given the quality of the Switchfoot songs that have gotten airplay and radio exposure, but they’re first album (from 1997) was really good and featured a great teenage track Chem 6A. I had a chance to see them live (STRadio favourite Holler, Wild Rose! were opening) and they put on a really entertaining show. Sadly, they didn’t play this song but they didn’t play anything off their first two albums. The rest of the episode features a few covers (as always) and some great random tracks including something from an upcoming album by a band name Neon Horse. They have a pretty ugly, kind of awkward sound but I like it, especially this track. Their self-titled album had some good songs on it and the new one is shaping up to be pretty awesome as well. On to the tracklist:
Strange Town by Neon Horse from “Haunted Horse: Songs of Love, Defiance, and Delusion”
Brain-Damaged by They Sang As They Slew from “The Resistance”
Chem 6A by Switchfoot from “The Legend Of Chin”
Traveler’s Song by The Future Of Forestry from “Travel”
Is There A Ghost by Denison Witmer (Originally by Band Of Horses)
The Weight by The Gaslight Anthem (Originally by The Band)
Every Shining Time You Arrive by Division Day (Originally by Sunny Day Real Estate)
Mea Culpa by All Things Bright And Beautiful from an upcoming album
Thanks again for listening and be sure to catch Tyrone’s special Michael Jackson tribute tomorrow. I’ve gotten a preview and it’s awesome. Also, great to have the Brown Couch Of Leisure back after a brief break.
