I know I promised a more “Twin Cities” centric podcast this week, but I’m afraid that’s just not going to happen. I did enjoy some rockage while I was in Minneapolis — namely Wolf Eyes and Black Dice, with local openers ADIDAS (talk about an ungoogable name — you guys were awesome, and I want to hear more!) at the Triple Rock Social Club, as well as a New Orleans style jazz troupe in Hell’s Kitchen. And yes, I did take my picture outside of First Avenue and 7th Street Entry, and ventured into the CC Club, so I did my musical landmark visits. One Midwestern band I did read about while I was in town was “The Daredevil Christopher Wright,” which is shaping up to be (or is already) the new blog-buzz band. Apparently Bon Iver mixed their latest album, “In Deference to a Broken Back,” and it’s simply amazing. The song I included at the start of the podcast is pretty angular-country at the start, put the second half is very Modest Mouse. They’ll be in Toronto on June 19 @ C’est What for NXNE, and I’ll be there for sure… hopefully they’ll be up for doing another show while in town, maybe even with “Silver Speakers.” That brings me to the plug: “Silver Speakers” is playing tonight @ the Oxford Hotel (117 Oxford Street) in Kensington Market in Toronto, and I’ll be playing an acoustic set at 10pm, so come on out!!! And for anyone who lives east of the big smoke, I’ll also be playing at The Duke in Lindsay, Ontario, Saturday night @ 10pm also… so if that’s your part of the country, come by and say hello. Both dates are a part of the Pitter Patter festival, an epic showcase of indie-rock in cities all over the province this weekend, so be sure to check some of it out!
