Design can kill you. Kind of… It can make you feel like you’ve died anyway.
If you have to design websites for random clients all day (not my clients, i love them 
), or create page layouts for boring financial magazines you might just die… creatively anyway. But there are venues to get out your inner fun designer.
One such way is located at marrsbar.net
They have a call for entries to “I love beer mats” an art show devoted to ar on beer mats! The Marrs Bar hosts the actual art show. The show is then put into an online gallery. The gallery is fantastic and has some amazing stuff.
The format is fantastic. An intimate size with varying shapes and a wonderful texture. These bad boys aren’t just for stopping spills, soaking up glass perspiration or flipping (I’m sure I hold some sort of coaster flipping record by the way and will challenge all…)
The competition is open now and although it seems pretty intense, give it a shot. The upside is you’ll have to go out to get some reference material. Or you might need the actual liquid persuasion to get going.
it sure beats working on tri-fold brochures all day (except for big time’s clients… we love working on your brochures!).
